(2nd QTR) |
The FHWA Exploratory Advanced Research (EAR) program focuses on longer-term and higher-risk breakthrough research with the potential for transformational improvements to plan, build, renew, and operate safe, congestion free, and environmentally sound transportation systems. Based on initial stage investigations including but not limited to literature scanning, convening of experts, and market research, the EAR Program anticipates soliciting for research proposals in six to 10 topic areas. |
| Comments |
Past EAR Solicitations typically have resulted in awards of between $500,000 and $1,000,000. Awards typically have gone to multi-disciplinary teams composed of multiple organizations (public and private) recognized nationally and internationally for their research capabilities. (2nd QTR) |
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) anticipates a 3 or 4-year cooperative agreement to support a program to train people in outdoor environmental ethics related to motorized and mechanized recreation. The program will qualify volunteer trainers and public agency personnel to teach how to use off-highway vehicles in a environmentally responsible manner. The program will work with Federal and State land management agencies and with trail-related nonprofit organizations. |
| Comments |
FHWA has a cooperative agreement with Tread Lightly!, Inc. to support the Tread Trainer Program, in effect September 2006 through September 2010. See www.treadlightly.org. Anticipated start date for a new agreement: September 2010. |
